Hey Neighbor, CAN YOU BE THERE?

There are two important events happening next week — two opportunities for us to prevent over-development of our neighborhood. Please try to make it to one or both of these important events.

Tuesday, June 14, 10 a.m., 40 Rector Street in Manhattan. The Board of Standards and Appeals will be holding what may be its final hearing about the attempt to build a 6 story building on the lot at 3333 Giles Place. If you can attend this, and especially if you’d like to take the train with us, please contact me. (The #1 train goes straight to Rector St, 2 short blocks from the building)

Wednesday, June 15, 7:30 p.m Riverdale Temple (Social Hall), 4545 Independence Avenue. This is the fourth meeting the Community Board  has held about the Jackson Development proposal for Cannon and Fort Independence. We’ve shown large numbers, and significant opposition. This may be the last time the Community Board considers this before the Housing Development Corporation decides whether or not to finance the project. (If you are driving and can take neighbors, that would be great. I will drive and can take three people. There is parking. The BX1 and BX10 buses go to Henry Hudson Park Parkway and 239th St, which is just two blocks from the Temple). DON’T LET THEM SAY WE DIDN’T CARE ENOUGH TO GO TO RIVERDALE!!

If we want to maintain the mixed scale of our neighborhood — if we don’t want every vacant lot turned into a tall building, and every other home knocked down for a large development, we have to stand up against inappropriate development. Please join us!

Sincerely,

Margaret Groarke
