I was getting a flat fixed at JA Flat Fix on Bailey Avenue just south of 238th St (fast and only $8!), and I got talking to the guys there about the trees on the block. (The people who work on that block obviously care about the trees — there’s one little shrub of a tree that they’ve protected by making a red tape “fence” around it to keep it from being knocked over).
There’s a dead tree there — no leaves, no other signs of life — and its Parks Department tag says “2011.” The men at the flat fix place told me it was planted THREE WEEKS AGO, lifeless like that. What’s up with planting a dead tree?
If you want to request that the City plant a tree, call 311.
