In its latest Statement of Needs, CB 8 stated:
The following statistics provide a profile of Bronx Community Board No. 8, according to the Department of City Planning, based upon the statistics from the 2005-2007 three year estimates of population data from the American Community Survey (PUMA5 03701):
BXCB8 has 110,210 persons (total population) living within our boundaries:
- Nearly 42% of BXCB8 community is of Hispanic origin
- 14.6% Black/African American
- 4.6% are Asian
- Nearly 26% of the total population is under 19 years old
- Nearly 20% are over 65 years old
- 80% are employed
- 26% are enrolled in a school
According to the 2000 census (total population 101,332):
- 71.8% of the total population are renters
- 21.5% are not proficient in English and 71.5% of this group speaks Spanish at home
- Thirty-two percent (32%) of the total population is foreign born:
- 62% from Latin America (up from 48.4% in 2000 census)
- 19.5% from Europe (down from 28.5% in 2000 census)
- 12.6% from Asia
- 5% from Africa.
According to the 2000 census, of the 27 census tracts that make up BXCB8, 6 tracts have 30% or more persons living below the poverty level and 4 of those tracts have more than 30% of families living below the poverty level.
