In the last month, I’ve noticed that the glass doors to 3342 Giles, the vacant house owned by the owners of the rursing home property, have been broken. Cats have been seen entering the house. To the extent that this once-lovely home is “cared for” or “maintained” (and I’m using these terms very loosely), it is maintained by staff of the nursing home. So when are they going to come replace the broken glass and secure the property?
COUNTDOWN TO A NEW MAYOR
Mayor Bloomberg has championed the cause of development above all else-- above community integrity, above living wage jobs, above affordability for low and middle income New Yorkers, and above quality of life issues including the sanctity of parkland and historic preservation. Bloomberg has stacked the deck in favor of developers, put their profits above all else, and made it very difficult for communities to protect their viability by asking the important questions: Does this fit the community? Does it bring something the community needs, or only something developers think they can profit from? Is it actually affordable? In the Bloomberg administration, all of that is secondary to encouraging large-scale development, come what may. He has created a war zone in the outer boroughs, where the vast majority of New Yorkers live and try to put down roots. In that context, we can't help but begin a COUNTDOWN TO A NEW MAYOR

This house should have been boarded up quite some time ago. I hate to have a house boarded up in the neighborhood but Helen once again refuses to due what is right and take care of the property that she is supposed to maintain.
The house has no electricity, no sewer and no water lines as they were all capped long ago when Helen thought she was going to tear down the house to make a parking lot. As we all know that never happened, but yet the house still stands empty and in disrepair.
The buildings department needs to issue some violations and force Helen to board it up.
