Since October 24, 2007, Fort Independence Park has remained unlocked at night, at the request of people in the local community and Community Board 8’s Parks Committee. We sign this petition to support keeping the park unlocked because we want to be able to enjoy the park in the early evening hours and the early morning hours; and, we want PEP officers, police officers and neighbors to be able to walk through the park when it is officially closed to ensure that illegal activities aren’t taking place. It should not be locked because the locked gates only keep out the police, vandals and criminals can easily climb over the gates.
Now a note from Margaret about the petition.
Thanks to everyone who sent emails to Community Board 8 (CB8). We decided to create a petition so they would know how we feel. Attached is a petition Terry and I wrote. Terry, Lynn and I have already started collecting signatures. If a few more people collect even one page each, we’d have 300 in no time.
If you want the paper edition, download and print here . If you get signatures, please return the petition to me (Margaret Groarke, 3330 Giles Place. I have a mail slot if you want to drop it by).
Hope everyone enjoys the long July 4th weekend!!
We decided to do an online petition for those of us who missed out on the paper one. Click on the link below to sign on:
