Day 120 – Today I am going to post a different kind of post, yesterday someone commented on my post and had many points that I want to answer. Instead of answering them in a comment which many would miss, I decided to take his post and put it up here as my daily update.
Before I do that I would like to thank Captain D’Adamo for being so proactive in the community and passing through the neighborhood. I saw him come through today and enforce the no parking rules that his command has setup since this strike started, although no tickets were issued vehicles were moved to be in compliance with the law. However after he passed through this car parked on the street in front of the barricades for several hours, now to be fair it did have MD plates but does that give it the right to not get a ticket?
Also there were spots available in the parking lot of the nursing home, clearly seen in the photo below.
Now onto the comments that a neighbor had posted yesterday along with my answers:
As a person who has both lived in this community for about 40 years and have worked with these “people” for about 15 years, i would have to comment that it seems that you, Mr PHIL, are more inclined to support these strikers than the community itself.
First it should be stated that your little click of 4 or 5 families does not speak nor represent the entire community.
Well I have not hidden the fact that I took a stand and chose to side with the striking members. As far as the 4 or 5 families we DO represent the community around us as we are the ones always out here fighting for the needs of the community. We have fought Helen Sieger every step of the way since she purchased the home and started her assault on the community. Did you forget what the front of the nursing home looked like before? How about the back patio? How about the house that she tore down right next to the nursing home and left a hole in the ground for 2 years? How about the other private house she wanted to tear down and make a parking lot? How about getting the neighborhood re-zoned to only allow private homes to be built? How about stopping the development of not one but two projects that would have had a negative impact on the community? To say that we don’t represent the community is just your opinion, I don’t see you out here giving us a hand when we need it for whatever the cause is.
We can all agree they deserve health care, but lets get real they are getting paid to be on strike, I beleive it’s 10 dollars an hour. The 1199 union has a history of not following though for their employees. In short, 1199 sucks, and I know from experience, not from being a bystander that happens to live across the street. Or someone who only worked there not even a year (Sheila and Chris)
First get your facts straight, the striking workers are getting unemployment, if that is $10/hr then so be it. As far as 1199 being good or bad I wouldn’t know first hand as they don’t represent me. You should realize that I am not a bystander that lives across the street, I have worked in the nursing home as well, I worked for Mr. & Mrs. Boritzer and never had a need to request union representation at the time.
Let’s get real there is no shortage of Nurses aide positions in this city or porters. They don’t wanna leave Kingsbridge because they don’t wanna lose Retirent funding, because yes, the “evil” Helen Seager does match employee contributions.
Wrong again, first your retirement benefits are vested and you carry them wherever you go to work. As far as helen contributing, she stopped all that in November 2007, it was not just health care but the entire benefit fund.
How come you are not out there with your camera when these strikers are assaulting people, I wittnessed two assaults on the June 17th, and I saw you just sitting there on the wall. Where was your Camera then? I have wittnessed a brawl, with several strikers assaulting a woman, then I wittnessed the strikers actually picking up the metal barracades and pinning the security guards against the fence.
Funny, as I was right in the middle of the altercation which I stated clearly in my posting. I thought it was two strikers that were fighting but it turned out to be two scabs who walked through the strike line purposely. As for sitting on the wall, I clearly had several pictures of the event after the security guards and Isaac broke up the fight. As for pinning the security guards to the fence, that is something new that I didn’t hear about. Perhaps there was another incident that took place when I wasn’t around? You know I don’t sit here 24 hours a day watching what is happening. Also if you witnessed all these things why didn’t you come to anyones rescue or at the very least call 911?
Striking is one thing, however that does not give one the right to break the law.
Does this go for the scabs too? Remember we have plenty of proof that the scabs have done illegal things as well.
Also, how come your not taking pictures of the strikers drinking beers by the porta potty on Cannon place. this happens on a regular basis.
Interesting, however I don’t necessarily travel down the block as the strike line is here, but if you see it by all means email me the pictures or better yet call the cops.
How come your not taking pictures of all the striker related filth accumulating on Cannon, from overflowing garbage, and Sanitation Street Sweepers who can’t come clean our street because of strikers sitting in their cars on Tues and Fri. I notice that your side of the street is able to be cleaned as well as the other “FIPNA” members who live on Giles. No ones blocking their Driveways or side of the street on street sweeping days!!
As for the cleaning of the streets, that is an issue to take up with DOT. I don’t see any overflowing garbage cans as city sanitation picks up 3 times a week and the private sanitation for the nursing home also picks up nightly from the strike line.
And now we have the open hydrant going 24/7. Why is the hydrant on Cannon now open around the clock. That is a sinful waste of water. just because it has a sprinkler cap it’s still a waste. Not to mentiopn that all the water travels down the road carrying with it more filth and garbage. I notice this is not collecting in front of your home, or the other “FIPNA” homes.
The hydrant is NOT open 24 hours all the time, if it is raining or just cold I personally turn it off. The NYFD came up and installed the sprinkler cap and opened the hydrant on the days that the temperature was well over 90 degrees. I am sure even you agree that the strikers need a place where they could cool down or wash their hands. Garbage does collect everywhere so let’s not say there is nothing collecting in front of my house. Yes the strikers do clean the sidewalks and curb up here in front of the strike line on both sides of the street, however none of this would be necessary if Helen did not take away all benefits.
And to go along with the open hydrant we now have the MR.Softee truck on a regular basis. How nice.
What is the problem with this? There are many children that do live on this street (mine included) and if the ice cream truck makes a stop what’s the big deal.
In case you have’nt noticed this isnt a park, this is where we live. this is turning into a round the clock block party, and you are encouraging it, and don’t blame it all on Seiger.
How is this a round the clock block party? First of all after 11PM there are never more than a dozen or so strikers, during the day is when most of the strikers are here and yes they sit around in the pens. When they were up chanting and banging the neighborhood had the issue of all the noise, now they are taking a different approach and not making too much noise and you still complain. What would you like them to do?
you are so very concerned, with camera in hand, about the Aux Cop car parked in front of the Cannon Heights parking lot (with officer sitting in car), why arent you concerend about these strikers freely blocking and actually parking in private driveways of homeowners?
First of all the Aux Cop car that you brought up had the community affairs officer sitting in it as you stated, so basically he saw the illegally parked car and did nothing about it, thank you for confirming what I have been saying that the scabs can park wherever they like and not face penalties. As far as parking in the private driveway, you should check to see if they have permission before you accuse people of parking in a driveway of a homeowner.
I know for a fact that you were never really involved with the Nursing home or it’s employees to any real extent over the years, it’s only lately because of the strike, it’s really embarrassing to see what a kiss ass you are. Im sorry, but it’s true.(your Jamaican Flag says it all) I don’t think you’ve had this much excitement since the the strike of the seventies, you remember the Boritzers.
You really should get your facts straight. Not only did I work there like I said before, I live directly across the street from the home, don’t you think I have a daily involvement with everyone that is passing by? I have known many of the employees for as many years as I have lived here. As far as MY Jamaican Flag, where? I have 3 flags on my house, an American, a Polish and an Irish flag all of which pertain to my heritage.
The strike was in the early 80’s if I remember correctly, how soon you forget that strike, you think there are problems now you should have seen what was done then. As far at the Boritzers, I not only remember them I knew them well, they are the ones we purchased my house from!
I think this is just so much fun for you and your chance to be the hero in front of Sheila and kids, but let me tell you, they (strikers) could care less about you or this comunity. they are concerned with their own immediate needs, thats all. I know because I know them. Ive worked with them for years.
I don’t need to be a “Hero” in front of Sheila or my children, if you are a good father then you know that you are always a hero in your childs eyes. I am positively sure that you ar wrong about the strikers, they are human beings just like you an me. Yes they have a need to get this strike resolved, but do you really think that when they go back to work they will abandon me if I needed something? Do you really think they are going to look at this community the same after all the support we (I and my “Click”) have given them?
And it should be noted that both Marlene and Beverly have been retired for years, so what are their big behinds doing back here?
Marlene is NOT retired and was working up until the day of the strike, Beverly came to the strike line to show support for her friends, yes she is retired.
If you are really concerened about the community how about getting after these people that don’t pick up after their dogs, or how about starting a community watch during the day hours when these break ins are happening? Or how about the litter or graffiti problem? How about getting after cars parking in peoples private driveway, oh wait you don’t have that problem because there is no parking on your side of the street, or on Giles either.
Let me ask you this, what have you done to improve the community? Have you done anyone of the above things? FIPNA has been around for many many years, it was started by mine and Karens mothers, they used to have monthly meetings, block clean-ups, they started a civilian patrol. All of these things have been done however they can only be done with people. The problem is getting people out to help. You come here any type which is very easy, when is the last time you have been to a community board meeting? How about the community council meeting at the precinct? When is the last time you called the cops because you saw something? When you can give me a list of all your accomplishments then we can talk. FIPNA has been and still is a big part of how this community is developed.
One thing should be said however about the strike, your Wifes step / foster brother, you know, the fat one? at least he does his drug dealing on Sedgwick now insead of on Cannon place.
My wifes step/foster brother? I know of only one brother that she has and he is as skinny as a rail. I am not sure who you are talking about, but once again put your money where your mouth is and take some pictures, call 911, do what needs to be done to better this community instead of just spouting off at the mouth.
You do have one very good idea though, that creepy habit of you taking pictures, I think i will do that as well to show whats really going on here.
I will be waiting to see what you have captured. Please feel free to email them to me or drop them in my mail slot, you know where I live.
Oh and by the way, This is Cannon place not Fort Independance.
What is that supposed to mean? Also it is Fort Independence Street. Just an FYI!
Till tomorrow, STAND STRONG!
