Strike Update Day 111 – (6/9/2008)

Day 111 – Another scorcher! The temperature had been close to 100 degrees today. The members were still here on the line, but they were doing their best to stay out of the sun to try and stay cool.

The Fire Department came by and installed a sprinkler cap on the fire hydrant so that the members would have a place to cool off. I must give a big thanks to New Yorks Bravest for taking the time out to come here and offer some relief to the striking members from this oppressive heat.

You can see that the members are already taking advantage of the nice cool water.

Once again today it seems that it is still ok for people to park on the street by just placing a paper in the front windshield. This car didn’t even have ‘MD’ plates.

Not only are the cars parking on the street, they still clog the sidewalk as well. You can also see how the ambulance is still parking across the street in the private driveway of Cannon Heights. Why is this necessary? There are two spots reserved just for this purpose in front of the nursing home, there was nobody blocking the spots but the ambulance still insists on blocking residents driveways.

Today I noticed that the nursing home has installed even more cameras, yes you heard me MORE cameras. What is the deal here? Why does a nursing home need so many cameras? Are they watching the people outside or are they worried about the people inside taking stuff out? Funny how they installed a second camera directly facing the 1199 SEIU mobile home. This camera not only faces the mobile home, but it pans from side to side and also sees clearly at night as it has an IR illuminator attached to it.

This morning on WWRL 1600 on your AM radio dial, Errol Louis of the NY Daily News was guest hosting a talk show where people could call in and talk about this ongoing strike. Thank you Errol for your excellent coverage of this story and for going beyond what others have been willing to do to cover this story. Errol recommend everyone listening to call the Department of Health and ask what they are doing to end this strike, I too would ask that you call, the phone call is FREE and takes only a couple of minutes. Call today (888) 201-4563.

In the Daily News article that was published on Sunday the nursing home said that it “replaced each employee and is extremely pleased with the new steady workforce.” That is pretty funny since the strike began and they started hiring replacement workers there has been an almost complete turn over of the new staff. These new workers don’t want to stay, they have no loyalty to Helen, they are just here to collect a check. Some get fed up when they come to work everyday and get yelled at by the striking members and so they don’t return, others are tired of the demands that have been put on them inside the home as they have to make up for the lack of staff. To say that the nursing home has a steady work force is absurd, it is more like a steady flow of work force.

It was alleged today that a resident had past away and wasn’t noticed until the new shift came on duty, it was only then that CPR was applied but at that point it was too late. I am awaiting more information about this issue and will post here once I have more details.

Tomorrow is supposed to be another hot one, but then the temperatures are going to break for the rest of the week.

Till tomorrow, STAND STRONG!

KUDOS AND A BIG THANK YOU GOES OUT TO NEW YORK’S BRAVEST, OUR VERY FINE, HARDWORKING FIREMEN…….. THEY SAW THE NECESSITY OF COMING UP TO CANNON PLACE AND PLACING A SPRINKLER CAP ON THE FIRE HYDRANT SO THAT THE STRIKE LINE COULD HAVE A PLACE TO COOL OFF DURING THIS EXTREME WEATHER…….THEY OF ALL PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THE NEED TO BE COOLED OFF……..YOU GUYS ROCK……..

ON THE OTHER HAND, SOME OF THE OFFICERS POSTED AT THE STRIKE SITE DON’T APPEAR TO HAVE THAT PROBLEM…….THEY AVAIL THEMSELVES OF THE USE OF THE NURSING HOME ON A REGULAR BASIS………HOW DOES THAT LOOK TO THE STRIKE LINE AND THE COMMUNITY, AS WELL??????????? AND THE FRATERNIZATION GOING ON BETWEEN SOME OF THE OFFICERS AND THE MICKEY MOUSE COPS IS JUST TOO FUNNY…….. A FEW THINGS THAT MAKE YOU GO HMMMMM……….AS FOR THE ILLEGAL PARKING, THAT NEVER SEEMS TO CHANGE……..THE BLATANT ABUSE OF PARKING RULES IS REPREHENSIBLE…….PARKED ON A STREET CLEARLY POSTED NO PARKING, USING A PIECE OF PAPER SAYING DOCTOR ON CALL, AND THE CONTINUAL OBSTRUCTION OF CITY SIDEWALKS IS UNACCEPTABLE……MAYBE WE SHOULD START VIDEOTAPING EVERY LITTLE INFRACTION, AS WELL, AND SEND IT TO THE POLICE COMMISSIONER…….IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT HE IS A VERY NO NONSENSE TYPE OF GUY AND VERY RECEPTIVE TO THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE……..ON ANOTHER NOTE.. HELLen WHAT ARE YOU SO AFRAID OF???????? MY GOODNESS THIS IS GOING WAY OVER THE TOP NOW……… IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE CAMERAS THAT ARE FACING THE PRIVATE HOMES ON CANNON PLACE HAVE SOUND AS WELL, WHICH IS A VIOLATION OF A COMMUNITY RESIDENT’S RIGHT TO PRIVACY……….IT ALSO APPEARS THAT THEY WERE INSTALLED INCORRECTLY AND THAT THERE ARE EXPOSED WIRES AND CRACKS AND BREAKS IN THE FACADE OF THE BUILDING……I THINK IT’S TIME FOR A FEW PHONE CALLS TO BE MADE………

MR. ERROL LOUIS YOU ARE A TRUE EXAMPLE OF WHAT AN UPSTANDING, REPUTABLE REPORTER IS…….THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT……..TO EVERYONE READING THIS BLOG AND WHO ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THIS STRIKE…..CALL THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND ASK THEM WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO PUT AN END TO THIS HORRIFIC SITUATION….[888] 201-4563 …..IT IS TOLL FREE…” NOW IS THE TIME FOR ALL GOOD MEN TO COME TO THE AID OF THEIR COMMUNITY”…………THERE IS TOO MUCH AT STAKE, TO NOT TAKE AN INTEREST IN WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE MIDST OF OUR ONCE BEAUTIFUL COMMUNITY, THAT IS SINGLE HANDEDLY BEING DESTROYED BY HELLen’s G-R-E-E-D…………IF THIS PATIENT ALLEGEDLY DIED ON ONE SHIFT, AND NO ONE NOTICED UNTIL THE NEXT SHIFT THERE IS DEFINITELY “SOMETHING ROTTEN IN KINGSBRIDGE HEIGHTS”……………..

  2. Former Employee

This is BULLSHIT- someone dies and nobody sees it?

  3. Rosa Martinez

A Dios mio-oh my God-what is going on here? this is getting crazier and crazier! what is wrong with this woman?

  4. KINGSBRIDGE RESIDENT

Man oh man, this used to be such a nice place to live. What the heck happened? What is wrong with the police? aren’t they working class stiffs like the rest of us? Or are they just looking to see who has the most to offer? Give this community a break already! What is up with this nursing home? I think they’ve gone way over the line now. They are getting way out there!

MON DIEU- IT IS HOT. It was very nice of the firemen to put a sprinkler cap on and open the fire hydrant for the strike line. The firemen, they understand the necessity to be able to cool down from such heat.
je vous remercie beaucoup Monsieu pompiers!Thank you very much Mr. Firemen. Now some of the police officers posted at the strike site are very nasty to the strikers. That is not very nice. How do you expect peoples to look up to you and have respect for you, if you show no respect? This is a very difficut situation for everyone, so please do not make it any worse. It is much easier to be nice. The illegal parking is a terrible problem and must be solved by you Mon Capitan, absolutmont this cannot continue, it has gone on long enough already.Ca suffit, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Certainmont. Ah HELLen,
    Assez pathétique,
si vous êtes paranoïaque, all of these cameras. What are you so afraid of? I guess you want to see them coming, nes pa? Or are you afraid of someone getting inside to see what is really going on?nes pa? I cannot understand how a person can die, and nobody sees this? Maybe if they saw they could have done CPR and maybe that person would still be alive? Is this what you call homicide? How many more peoples will die before the reign of terror of HELLen is over?
