Strike Update Day 85 – (5/14/2008)

Day 85 – The mood on the line was a bit more upbeat today even though the members are still mourning the loss of their dear friend Audrey. They had been singing and praying on the strike line most of the morning in remembrance of her.

I was on 231st street today and noticed that Jeffrey Dinowitz had placed one of the union signs in his front window of his office. The sign that says “6 years with no contract – enough is enough” is seen by all who passes by or enters his office, what a nice gesture of support.

Speaking of signs, it was brought to my attention that the NYPD put the no parking signs up with staples, don’t they know you are not supposed to staple into NYC trees? The following is printed clear as day on the Mayor’s office website:

Every Tree Counts
Tape, staples or thumb tacks can severely damage trees. Use elastic bands or string when posting resident letters or parking signs.

Next time please bring some string with you.

If you remember yesterday I was talking about all the cars the nursing home parks in their front lot, well today I wanted to bring to everyones attention a potentially serious issue about these cars parking there. In the pictures below you will see cars parked in the front lot that are overlapping what used to be the main entrance walkway, at first you might think it is no big deal because the entrance is not used any longer. However the problem is it still is an emergency exit, the pathway should be kept clear for emergency situations.

Not to mention this car below that is parked right in front of an emergency exit that leads into the parking lot.

Someone that was inside the nursing home has told me that there are things that are not right inside, there are not enough supplies like linens and towels, they are using pillow cases to wash and clean residents, there is no soap to use at all sometimes, sometimes liquid hand soap is used to wash residents with. I feel so sad for the residents if they are being treated in this manner, can you imagine using liquid hand soap on the most private parts of your body? If this is true why isn’t this being noticed by the DOH? How many DOH inspectors are in there anyway? Is it only the same one all the time? If so maybe it is time to bring in more to double check what is going on. Remember the fiasco the Board of Health had happen because of the restaurant inspectors, I am pretty sure DOH does not want something like that to happen to them when all this has been out here publicly for quite some time now. Even if these are all unfounded rumors wouldn’t it be in the best interests of the patients to make sure?

Till tomorrow, STAND STRONG!

    Well, it looks like no one is in charge and that we are looking at a dangerous condition. That would be the third time we have documented a dangerous condition since the strike began.

    First was the Generators boxed in that caught fire.

    Next was the linens and things lined up outside.

    Now they are blocking the exits.

    I GUESS THEY FEEL THE LAWS ARE FOR EVERYONE ELSE AND NOT THEM…..IS IT TRUE?? I HEARD THAT IT’S ONLY ONE INSPECTOR, THE SAME ONE ALL THE TIME, AND THAT SHE NEVER GOES BEYOND THE FIRST FLOOR…….ALL SHE DOES IS GO IN ,CHECK THE CHARTS AND THEN LEAVE……WHAT IS THAT???????? AND NO ONE CHECKS UP ON HER??????WHERE IS HER SUPERVISOR????????? WHERE IS THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH…….WHAT DO THEY NEED TO SEND SOMEONE IN TO DO AN INVESTIGATION?????????HOW MANY MORE PEOPLE ARE GOING TO DIE??????? MAYBE GOVERNOR PATTERSON SHOULD TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, BEFORE THEY WIND UP ENTRENCHED IN A SCANDAL LIKE THE BOARD OF HEALTH AND THE BUILDINGS DEPARTMENT…..

    Don’t Quit Poem
    by anonymous

    When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
    When the road you’re trudging seems all up hill,
    When the funds are low and the debts are high,
    And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
    When care is pressing you down a bit,
    Rest! if you must; but don’t you quit.

    Life is queer with its twists and turns,
    As everyone of us sometimes learns,
    And many a failure turns about
    When he might have won had he stuck it out;
    Don’t give up, though the pace seems slow;
    You might succeed with another blow.

    Often the goal is nearer than
    It seems to a faint and faltering man,
    Often the struggler has given up
    When he might have captured the victor’s cup.
    And he learned too late, when the night slipped down,
    How close he was to the golden crown.

    Success is failure turned inside out;
    The silver tint of the clouds of doubt;
    And you never can tell how close you are,
    It may be near when it seems afar;
    So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit;
    It’s when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit.

    STAND TOGETHER,UNITED AND STRONG, MY FRIENDS.

    HEY JMAN THE FOLLOWING QUOTE IS FOR YOU AND ALL THE REST OF THE SCABS….. ……………………………………………………… He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it.
    Martin Luther King, Jr.

  7. A GOOD CHRISTIAN WOMAN

    Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
    Where there is hatred, let me sow love,
    Where there is injury, pardon
    Where there is doubt, faith,
    Where there is despair, hope,
    Where there is darkness, light,
    Where there is sadness, joy.
    O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much
    seek to be consoled as to console,
    not so much to be understood as to understand,
    not so much to be loved, as to love;
    for it is in giving that we receive,
    it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
    it is in dying that we awake to eternal life.

    Letter from Heaven

    To my dearest friends, some things I’d like to say
    But first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
    I’m writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
    Here, there’s not more tears of sadness; Here is just eternal love.

    Please do not be unhappy just because I’m out of sight.
    Remember that I am with you every morning, noon, and night.
    That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through.
    God picked me up and hugged me and He said, “I welcome you.

    It’s good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
    As for your dearest family, they’ll be here later on.
    I need you here badly, you’re part of my plan.
    There’s so much that I have to do, to help our mortal man”

    God gave me a list of things that he wished for me to do.
    And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
    And when you lie in bed at night the day’s chores put to flight.
    God and I are closest to you…in the middle of the night.

    When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years.
    Because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
    But do not be afraid to cry: it does relieve the pain.
    Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

    I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
    If I were to tell you, you wouldn’t understand.
    But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is over,
    I’m closer to you now, than I ever was before.

    There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
    But together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
    It was always my philosophy and I’d like it for you too;
    That as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

    If you can help somebody who’s in sorrow and pain;
    Then you can say to God at night…”My day was not in vain.”
    And now I am contented…that my life was worthwhile.
    Knowing as I passed along the way I made somebody smile.

    So, if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low;
    Just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
    When you’re walking down the street and you’ve got me on your mind;
    I’m walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

    And when it’s time for you to go…from that body to be free.
    Remember you’re not going…you’re coming here to me.

  10. mr. scab

    no offense, but to call the workers of 1199 (most who act like rude pigs that is, not the nice ones like Graves or Isaac) the “intelligentsia” is just plain erroneous… there is nothing high – class or intelligent about this group of heathens. also those workers who want to live with dignity should act with some first. as for the names, i am not anyone but mr. scab or nakiba so stop saying i am as i have the cojones to admit who i am… gimme credit for that at least. finally, jealousy is a monster, i saw the report on nbc. what is said at the end? the DOH found no problems. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO PROBLEMS!!!!!! So stop fishing, admit you got beat and then move on. Believe it or not, KHRCC can function without 1199, the sun still shines with you on strike, and the moon still controls the tides without the prescence of the distinguished union workers in this building. gn yall…. smooches.

  11. Phi

    You forgot ‘you see me everyday’ I am pretty sure that is you as well Martin.

    As for the NBC report about DOH, that doesn’t mean everything is fine like you are claiming, how can many people inside see things that DOH didn’t? Or is it that DOH standards are not high enough? Either way nobody has been beaten yet and 1199 is not going anywhere.

    What I would like to know is how do you expect to work side by side with these ‘Heathens’ as you called them when they do return to work at KHRCC? And why do you keep mentioning Isaac and Graves so much, I thought you already had a boyfriend? You did say in one of your posts that your male lover is Arkady?

    One last thing, I thought you said you retired from this blog? Maybe you are the one that needs move on.
