Day 81 & 82 – First I would like to wish all of the mothers out there a very Happy Mothers Day!
Since this Sunday was Mothers Day I did not expect too many members to be on the line, boy was I wrong. The line was well manned and for good reason, the guys on the line took up a collection and prepared a luncheon for all the women on the line for Mothers Day. I think all the women were surprised and all the members were surprised that we (FIPNA) brought cupcakes for desert, we had planned to do a little something special for Mothers Day and decided to bring cupcakes to the line. We did not know that the men on the line had their own surprise waiting. It was a perfect combination that created an even better day for all on the line.
Before everyone started to eat we took a minute for prayer.
Everyone was able to get their belly’s full of good food and then had our desert along with other homemade cakes and cookies.
The weather was just perfect for everyone to just relax and have great conversation.
There was even a picture of Helen that the members had hanging on the line.
All in all it was a beautiful day and everyone had a great time. I am sad that the members are still on strike on day 82, however something was said to me by one of the members that really made me think that perhaps this strike is worth it for more reasons than just what they are fighting for. I was told that when the members were working inside the nursing home, some of them didn’t even know one another. Being on the strike line has brought them all closer and now they consider themselves one big family. This was very touching to me and even though I am not an employee of KHRCC or a member of 1199 I am proud to be part of their new found family.
Once again, Happy Mothers Day!
Till tomorrow, STAND STRONG!
