Strike Update Day 80 – (5/9/2008)

Day 80 – The strike is still ongoing, 80 days and not a glimmer of negotiations. Why can’t Helen see that the union members are not going anywhere and the longer it takes the more pressure will be put on her to negotiate with them. She can’t bury her head in the sand and hope for the striking members to just go away, it is not going to happen. They have been here for 80 days and are still standing strong.

Maybe we should all take a lesson from our children, I attended a show today at my sons school. It was a good example of how people should be able to get along, you can watch the video below of my son and his dance partner. You might ask what does this have to do with the strike? If you have been following this blog you know that my son is an 1199 supporter, he has been on the strike line, at the rally’s and even helped serve the breakfast to the striking members. Now here is the part that we should all follow, his dance partner is the daughter of one of the administrators of the nursing home. Now I know she has nothing to do with the strike, but I do think that we should all take a look at how our children are able to be respectful of one another and get along no matter what side of the fence they stand on. If only Helen could be the same way and put her grudges aside and come to the bargaining table to negotiate a fair contract so these workers can return to work.

There was no other news to report today from the line, it rained the entire day without much of a break. It is always hard to be on the strike line when the weather is so horrible. Tomorrow is supposed to be a much better day weather wise.

Till tomorrow, STAND STRONG!

I think it was more of a joke, “Dancing with the stars” get it?

I in no way inferred that either child has anything to do with this strike except for my son supporting the union. Of course because ones parent works for a facility that is on strike does not make their children scabs. However the parent could be considered a scab even though they are management.

employee, please watch your language as children do read this blog as well. I edited your comment to remove your foul language.

Hey mr scab are you so thin skinned and ignorant that you don’t know a play on words when you see it? Oh yeah that’s right you’re a scab and you only see what you want to see!The only really mean lady around here is Helen Sieger. Like I said before, maybe Helen Sieger could learn a thing or two from the kids. AMEN.

THE VIDEO OF THE CHILDREN DANCING IS JUST ADORABLE………WHAT IS IT THAT THEY SAY ‘THE CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE”………WE COULD ALL LEARN A LESSON OR TWO FROM THE CHILDREN…….MAYBE THAT’S WHAT WE SHOULD DO……HAVE THE CHILDREN HOLD NEGOTIATIONS……..THEY WOULD PROBABLY HAVE A CONTRACT AND A SETTLEMENT IN NO TIME……IT’S QUITE APPARENT THAT HELEN SIEGER HAS DUG HERSELF IN AND HAS NO INTENTION OF GOING TO ANY OF THE NEGOTIATION MEETINGS………BUT LIKE THE UNION’S MOTTO WE WILL DO “WHATEVER IT TAKES,HOWEVER LONG IT TAKES” TO GET THIS STRIKE ENDED………THE UNION IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE….THE UNION MEMBERS ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE…… THE POLITICIANS ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE AND MOST DEFINITELY THE COMMUNITY IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE,……….NO MATTER HOW MUCH HELEN SIEGER WISHES WE WOULD……….

  7. FORMER FIPNA PRESIDENT

I WOULD JUST LIKE TO WISH ALL MY FRIENDS ON THE LINE “A VERY HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY” ……IT’S A SHAME YOU HAVE TO BE ON THE STRIKE LINE, BUT YOUR CAUSE IS RIGHT AND JUST AND WE SHALL PREVAIL…….STAND STRONG MY FRIENDS, WE ARE BEHIND YOU ALL THE WAY………..

How can its parents can be consider a scab ..dont you remeber what you wrote the about the definition what scab means? i dont think that her parent have a union position , so how can they be scabs? PS: im not MR scab, jman,or who ever…

  9. Karen

Well the Dancing was great! What a coincidence that the two children would be dancing together and the parents are on opposite sides.

We can learn from the children. Happy Mother’s Day to all!

First let me just say that I have no animosity towards the girls parents, as a matter of fact I think they are both good people. I also don’t really consider them scabs as they were management before the strike and they MUST continue their jobs if they want to keep them, that is the problem of not having a union for protection.

Now as for you “employee”, I remember exactly what I wrote, why don’t you re-read it and comprehend it, especially the #4 bullet point.

DEFINITION OF A SCAB from MERRIAM WEBSTER Dictionary:
3 a: a contemptible person b (1): a worker who refuses to join a labor union (2): a union member who refuses to strike or returns to work before a strike has ended (3): a worker who accepts employment or replaces a union worker during a strike (4): one who works for less than union wages or on nonunion terms.

Now “employee” you seem to have much to say about this, but yet you hide yourself behind a fictitious name. Why is it that all the people from “inside” the nursing home have come here to yap but yet hide themselves? The only one who had enough guts to state who he really is was Martin aka Mr. Scab. I don’t see what the big deal is, we all are here using our real names and you can surely find me anytime just by crossing the street.

Don’t you know,it’s so easy to flap your gums and call people names and hide behind ’employee’.you’re all so afraid of using your names because when the strike is over and done, then you’d have to defend yourselves, you’re all a bunch of chickens..cluck cluck.will the real ’employee’ please stand up? cluck cluck
