Strike Update Day 77 – (5/6/2008)

Day 77 – Well the laundry was still outside this morning, no surprise here since it was midnight last night when I took the picture of the laundry outside.

Not too long after the picture above was taken then a new laundry company pulled up to finally pick up the laundry that was outside for 24 hours.

I just hope that now the residents have clean linens so that they can remain clean and dry in their beds.

Today we heard from a family member some rather disturbing updates of the quality inside the nursing home. I am just going to list them here the way they were told to us and you can form your own opinions about it.

  • No clean linens on the floors. The resident’s relative is sleeping on dirty linen.
  • The supplemental feeding containers went from 438 calories to 300, with no increase in volume.
  • The resident’s relative has reported that he saw the Health Inspector once and they go right into the office and review files. Actually we have heard that from others as well.
  • The resident’s relative reports that the floors are not washed.
  • The resident’s relative reports that there are signs inside that state: Helen We Love You.

In a comment on yesterdays post someone said that the administration of the nursing home does not appear to be acting rationally or responsibly, it is obvious that there is something disturbing going on inside as the administrator has lots of cameras trained on the strikers, bright lights for the cameras, and massive amounts of security guards. Not to mention that Helen herself has been bunkered down inside the nursing home for the 77 days of the strike, leaving only occasionally. She hasn’t used her personal car for the 77 days of the strike as it has been parked in the front parking lot since the start of the strike on February 20. Is this rational in your opinion?

Why does it appear to everyone around us that something is wrong here, but the department of health doesn’t see anything wrong?

If you visit the nursing home and see anything out of the norm, please don’t hesitate to call the complaint hotline at 1-888-201-4563.

Till tomorrow, STAND STRONG!

Thank you for finally putting it down in black and white.A lot of families are watching their relatives suffer for the last 77 days, but are too afraid of retaliation to say anything. The conditions are deplorable, and for anyone to say that the conditions in the home have improved since the strike began is delusional. The DOH goes in every day? Where?in one door and out the other. There are a lot of things very wrong here, but no one seems to give a damn. You have helped me make up my mind,I cannot stand by in silence any longer.I will call the hotline.

When I left Giles Place for Europe two months ago, I thought the strike would be settled within days. After all, how long could the nursing home refuse to pay for the health care of its workers? How innocent I was!

This is a sad situation, and it is high time that someone — the State Health Department, Helen’s family, the Labor Department — stepped in to rectify matters.

    Stay strong strikers!

  3. FORMER FIPNA PRESIDENT

WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD BUNKER DOWN IN A NURSING HOME FOR 77 DAYS???????? HOW CAN THIS BE??????WHAT ARE THEY SO AFRAID OF??????? ALL THESE LIGHTS, CAMERAS, SECURITY GUARDS, WHAT ARE THEY HIDING??????? IS IT AN ARMED CAMP????? THIS IS GETTING VERY BIZARRE AND UNFATHOMABLE…….ARE THERE REALLY SIGNS THAT SAY HELEN, WE LOVE YOU??????? AM I THE ONLY ONE THAT THINKS THIS IS LUDICROUS??????? AND WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE BIG MOUTHED SCABS THAT WERE CONSTANTLY POSTING THEIR DRIVEL ON THE SITE???????? I GUESS THEIR COMPUTER PRIVILEGES WERE TAKEN AWAY…..OR MAYBE THEY WERE SHUT DOWN SO THAT THEY WOULDN’T SAY ANYTHING THEY WEREN’T SUPPOSED TO SAY…….YOU KNOW THE OLD SAYING ‘LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS’…….SOMEONE BETTER GO IN AND INVESTIGATE…..BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE…….TIME IS RUNNING OUT FOR ALL THOSE POOR RESIDENTS, THEY ARE THE ONES WITHOUT A CHOICE AND THE ONES THAT ARE SUFFERING THE MOST……THEY DESERVE BETTER………

They probably aren’t paying bills, that’s why the dirty laundry is hanging out.
