Strike Update Day 70 – (4/29/2008)

Day 70 – Today I am only going to focus on the good, that good is the community came out to support the striking workers by preparing and serving them a nice continental style breakfast. The breakfast was sponsored by us F.I.P.N.A.

The weather was not too friendly but at least it didn’t down pour and ruin our breakfast. We setup a nice buffet with bagels, rolls, pastries, cookies, cake and much more.

We even had our own security guard watching so that no scabs would eat our food.

The members were surprised because nobody knew about our plan except for Isaac. The breakfast started off with a prayer lead by one of the striking members.

Our board members including our littlest one, my son served the breakfast to the members on the strike line.

We all enjoyed some great food, a special thanks goes out to Rockland Bakery for their partial donation to us.

We were visited by Jeffrey Dinowitz who spoke with us and also presented two very special community awards.

One of the awards were presented to Isaac Nortey for his tremendous help as a community liaison, without him we would be hard pressed to make things like this breakfast happen.

The second award was presented to our smallest board member Michael McDonnell for his outstanding community service by supporting the striking workers since day one.

I would like to personally thank Mr. Jeffrey Dinowitz for taking time out of his busy schedule to visit us on the strike line even though this is not his district. Mr. Dinowitz has been a big supporter of the striking members since day one.

I would also like to thank everyone that helped make the breakfast possible and the huge success that it was.

After the breakfast was over we all gathered for some chit-chat and we sang some of the more popular songs that the members sing on the strike line. Even though the rain did not go away we all had a very nice morning.

Now that we are done preparing for this breakfast, all the focus will be on the May 3rd rally that will take place right here on Cannon Place, check back here for more information or check the unions website at www.1199seiu.org.

Till tomorrow, STAND STRONG!

What a nice thing for FIPNA to do.That’s something that Alice and Tina{RIP} would have done.Philip and Karen you do your Moms proud. You both made a very wise choice to continue on with what they started so long ago. I guess it’s in your blood.Keep up the good work, the world could use a lot more of you two, to make it a better place for all of us to live in.
