Day 52 – The day started out with Detective Rodriguez the Community Affairs Officer instituting the Captains order of No Parking on the street in the “Strike Zone”.
Detective Rodriguez, himself was put to work to arrange the metal barricades so that it is clear that there is no parking on the street, however there were no signs posted stating the no parking rule so if the barricades get moved the effort that Detective Rodriguez made will be nullified.
The striking members had a surprise phone call today from Senator Barack Obama. Over 100 striking members were invited into the strike headquarters house to gather around a speakerphone to listen with pride as this national leader pledged solidarity with their cause and encouraged them to continue to organize towards a just and fair contract. The Senator was clearly engaged and the workers carried a renewed spirit and energy back to the line. You can hear the phone call here. Next up should be a call or visit from our own New York Senator, Hillary where are you?
The afternoon was business as usual, the scabs all left the building escorted by the security team from the nursing home. It seems there were more security than scabs today.
If you have been keeping up with the blog you surely were reading the posts from “Mr. Scab” yesterday. I have still yet to hear from him/her directly, it amazes me that people are willing to come here to a public forum and post information that clearly has to be from the inside but yet won’t own up to who their identity is.
If the people inside the nursing home are so happy to be there working then why is this woman asking to come outside and join the striking members? Is she being treated unfairly? I don’t know the whole story here but the woman was talking to the strikers out the window and had asked if she could come out and join them.
This evening was a quiet time, you can see even the police are bored.
Once again the rain is starting to fall so it will be a not so nice night to be on the line. Rain or shine these people are out there 24 hours a day because they are fighting for what is right. HEALTH CARE!
Till tomorrow, STAND STRONG!
