Strike Update Day 51 – (4/10/2008)

Day 51 – The weather decided to play nice today, the temperature hit 73 degrees and the sun was shining. There was a large showing from the members who were chanting “Up Up Up with the Union!”

The striking members took full advantage of the nice weather and were jumping rope.

The strikers were celebrating one of their birthdays and they all sang the Happy Birthday song. It is nice to see such a large group of people supporting one another while standing up for what they believe in. This is now day 51 and there is no end in sight, it can get very discouraging not seeing any progress but believe me there is a lot of things going on to try and resolve this unfair strike. Everyone supports you!

Do you remember this guy? I wonder whatever happened to him. The security force that the nursing home has hired is still here but I have not seen hide nor hair of this guy.

We attended the community council meeting at the 50th precinct tonight and were able to speak about all the issues the community is facing because of the strike as well as how we the community are being treated by the police department. We have settled some of the uncertain issues like parking, according to the Captain there will be no parking from Giles Place to just after the nursing home on Cannon Place. Although it is not great that there is no parking at least we now know that THERE IS NO PARKING. Hopefully this will be enforced across the board and not selectively.

Karen was able to air her grievance about the insensitive way we were treated at the candle light vigil. Karen was making a speech and just at the time she was reciting the speech that Martin Luther King Jr. made, the police decided to back up one of their vans and reposition it on Giles Place. From my point of view this was unnecessary and caused a lot of noise from the back up alarm for no reason. If the van had to move which was stated at the meeting, it could have just pulled off and not reversed out of Cannon Place. We did receive an apology from the Captain as well as the Lieutenant that was on duty that evening.

Till tomorrow, STAND STRONG!

strike or no strike, the way the strikers act is disgusting and shameful. i notice that there are no pictures of strikers verbally and physically harassing others…. just jump rope. nice. it is very nice to be fair and unbiased.

‘ HOPE IS THE THING WITH FEATHERS THAT PERCHES IN THE SOUL,AND SINGS THE TUNE WITHOUT THE WORDS,AND NEVER STOPS AT ALL’ EMILY DICKINSON……STAND STRONG…

how about the fact that an activties worker had a piece of her hair pulled out, suffered hand lacerations, and had her head bleed because of one of your workers attacked her. doesn’t count? the ambulance was called. cops saw this. please, stop living in a fantasy world and live in the real world. what about claire or whatever her name is, the organizer, spitting on a director here. specific enough for you? no wonder your workers act in such a way when your organziers are just common criminals.

THIS IS IN RESPONSE TO”"mr scab”‘ YEAH RIGHT WHO ARE YOU KIDDING.YOU’RE NO MORE A SCAB THAN I’M THE MAN IN THE MOON. THE SCABS WE’VE SEEN DON’T LOOK LIKE THEY COULD WRITE ABOVE THIRD GRADE LEVEL. “”MR. PHONY”" IS MORE LIKE IT..IF PEOPLE ,LIKE WHO YOU’RE PRETENDING TO BE ,WOULDN’T COME IN AND TAKE HARDWORKING HONEST PEOPLES JOBS THERE WOULD BE NO PROBLEM.UNFAIR??????UNBIASED??????? WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE BUDDY…..YOU’LL BE HISTORY SOON ENOUGH……….

Hey,hey mr scab, come out ,come out, wherever you are!

  7. mr. scab

to call these people honest and hardworking is just a farce. and btw, your newsletter about the “scabs” having diseases that they can pass on is comical given the sexual promsicuity present in the lives of those workers walking outside…. true this is not my place to judge, but, facts are facts in terms of STD’s and hygeine. you want to know my identity for what reason? to have a sensible discussion, ok. but to yell at me when i try to speak politely to the workers outside just shows that for most of these strikers, manners and dignity are mere words that they cannot spell, let alone know the definition of and able to use cogently in a full, gramatically correct senetnce.
i will say that honestly, a few of you are reasonable. for example, Limus, Graves, Marlene are all approachable. but the rest of you are either too stupid or ignorant to realize that to scream dignity and then call women whores, women who by the way are married and know who their babies fathers are, while the people outside are …. lets just say they cant where white on their wedding day, is just so contradictory, it shows how dumb the workers really are. so to know my identity, lets just say im wise beyond my years.

  8. Need Health Care Benefits

Dear Mr.Scab, . . . . the problem is that some scabs may have not passed the tests for health ad criminal safety as the people who were originally hired. Can you attest to the fact that the new hirees working in the home have been tested and vetted appropriately? . . . . That is what smart people want to know . . . .because this is a fight about health care benefits for people who work for a living. Do not confused it with your attempt to bait and anger the us by insults . . . . The contract should be signed because the workers deserve health care benefits. . . . you should be ashamed to call yourself a scab . . . as you enable the nursing home to take away HEALTH CARE BENEFITS.

  9. Karen

I agree with Phil . . . get Health Care for Health Care workers . . . we all deserve Health Care . . . Don’t you wish you had Health Care, Mr.Scab? . . . Quit being a scab and work for a union that will guarantee Health Care benefits.

  10. FORMER FIPNA PRESIDENT

SINCE EVERYONE HAS RESPONDED SEVERAL TIMES TO”"MR SCAB”"I’VE DECIDED TO ADD A FEW WORDS TO THE NOT SO WISE…… .QUITE OBVIOUSLY YOU ARE NOT WISE BEYOND YOUR YEARS,OTHERWISE YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN SMARTER AND THOUGHT ABOUT WHAT YOU WERE WRITING IN A PUBLIC FORUM.SO YOU KNOW A FEW BIG WORDS..OH WOW….HOW IMPRESSING., ..IT’S QUITE EVIDENT THAT YOU HAVE AN AX TO GRIND, BUT YOU BETTER BE VERY CAREFUL WHAT YOU SAY IN BLACK AND WHITE,IT MAY COME BACK TO HAUNT YOU…..
