Strike Update Day 27 – (3/17/2008)

Day 27 – Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!

Today the FDNY & DOT came to look at the generators and told the nursing home to remove all the wood that they placed around the generators to try and abate the noise. Now remember the wood did nothing to stop the noise, perhaps 2 or 3 decibels lower, but all that work for 2 or 3 decibels and still above the legal noise limit?!

Well it appears that the wood is a fire hazard after all and the nursing home has to remove all the wood, which they did today.

When I spoke with DEP this evening I was told the nursing home has 48 hours to remove the generators and install alternate lighting that is hard-wired into their electricity. Well they haven’t removed the generators yet but they did start to install lighting on their building.

Is this battle won? Let’s hope so, but I won’t count my chickens until the last generator is gone. I will keep you updated and of course I will be on the phone with DEP Wednesday if these generators are still here. I still can’t believe that it has taken so long to stop these noisy generators from running all night on our street.

Till tomorrow, STAND STRONG!

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw all the police officers from the 50 precinct. I know it used to be called the “country club” and after seeing the shape a lot of the officers are in, it obviously still is the “country club”. Maybe they should bring back more foot patrols.
