Strike Update Day 16 – (3/6/2008)

Not much new today with the strike, the members have continued their strong support of the strike even though they have been restrained in the way they can demonstrate. There was no banging of pots and pans or any whistle blowing, however there was plenty of chanting and yelling.

Was mostly what was heard through the day. There are many things going on behind the scenes to help support the members as well as to try and end this strike.

I was a little upset with the story that appeared in the Riverdale Press today. The story made it appear like the whole community is against the union members that are on strike, this is not the case. Yes, there always will be some who do not agree with a strike, but this strike is for an unfair labor practice. How would you like to go to work and find out that you and your family no longer has medical insurance? You can’t get the medicine that you need daily to breathe because the company you work for, who by the way is making profit year after year decides that you can’t have benefits anymore. I am sure you would be out on the picket line as well, no?

Here is a picture of all the security that has been hired to police the area around the nursing home. They guide the temporary workers from taxi’s to the building and make sure they arrive at work safely. This is all well and good, but come on do you really need this much security?

These are health care workers not hardened criminals on the picket line!

Till tomorrow, STAND STRONG!
