Well today was not such a good day for the strikers. It seems like the police are really trying to make their strike duty very hard. The strikers have an RV type truck parked on the street outside the nursing home, it is like a command station / warmth station for the strikers doing their turn. Behind the RV they had two canopies setup to cover folding tables which they kept coffee/water/food for the union members that are on strike duty. Well today the Captain of the 50th decided that this is not acceptable and they had to remove all canopies/tables/etc. So now when it rains/snows where are the union members supposed to grab a warm cup of coffee or where are they supposed to get some food?
I think the 50th precinct is really taking a hard stand against the union members with no reason. I see no reason why the union members cannot keep a canopy with tables behind their RV one the street as it was not blocking anything or anyone. The sidewalk was clear, the road was clear enough for all traffic to flow. The precinct thinks that it is ok to remove all our parking from the street but yet it is not ok to allow the union members who are out there 24 hours a day to have a place to setup for food and drinks. I am appalled at the way this whole strike has been handled by the police, they have not only been harassing the union members they have been harassing us home owners as well. They are parking in or across our drive ways, taking our parking away, closing our street at times.
Do we live in a police state? Are we criminals? Why are we being treated as though we are?
Here is a little video of the generator driven lights that the nursing home has running daily from 6pm – 6am that nobody seems to be able to shut down. Not the police, not the DEP, who do I have to call the Mayor? This video gives you an idea of how loud these units are, this was shot from across the street on the home owners side.
