Strike Update Day 11 & 12 – (3/1 – 3/2/2008)

Being the weekend I didn’t have time to post each day. I am doing a weekend wrap up of sorts.

Saturday was another day for the strikers, they have been standing strong and not wavering from their goal of a fair contract with health care benefits.

The weekend was no different for the neighborhood as we still are being assaulted by the lights and noise of the generators that the nursing home continue to run even though they are breaking the law. It seems like no agency is willing to step in to shut these down. They are clearly too loud for a residential neighborhood as the DEP has taken numerous readings all of which have been above allowable limits, they even issued a violation the first night they were here. However they have not followed the letter of the law to issue a violation every 24 hours for the same infraction as well they have not issued a cease and desist notice to stop the infraction of the law. What will it take to get this noise to stop? Here you can see the lights running, it makes you feel like you’re at a Yankee game.

Sunday was a much better day, the union had a family day and invited the neighborhood to join them for food, drinks and to march the picket line. The turn out was great and everyone enjoyed a nice day along with some good food.
